aTV Flash (black) 1.2 Now Available
It's a brand new year, and we've wasted no time getting back to work making the AppleTV even more awesome. As a result, we're happy to present you with a fresh, new version of aTV Flash (black) which features a number of great new things including: video zoom options, grid view watched icons, quick access to recently visited pages, improved support for subtitles, and a truckload of other improvements and bug fixes.
Full details on what's new and how to update can be found below.
New Zoom Options
Three all new zoom options (Normal, Crop, and Stretch) allow you choose how videos are displayed. You can keep videos in their native format (widescreen or pillar box) or crop/stretch them to fill the entire screen.
Grid View Watched Indicators
Watched indicator icons have been added to the grid view. These icons allow you to quickly see which content is new and ready to be enjoyed. (Note: These can be disabled through the Media --> Settings menu if desired)
Recently Visited Pages
Couch Surfer now displays thumbnail images in the 'top shelf' area of the main menu, which allows you to quickly get back to recently viewed pages.

If you're already running a version of aTV Flash (black) the new 1.2 version can be installed through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu. Links for the new version can also be found in your account under the Downloads tab.

would be great to be able to occlude some folders from the "recently watched" because when i watch adult content, then it sticks there.. :D seriously.

any way to force the apple TV to display all resolutions at all times in the resolutin menu? when i have it connected directly to my 1024x768 projector, it auto senses properly. when i run the out thru a DVI / HDMI / component in switchbox, the switchbox communicates only true HD resolutions (1080p, 720p, etc) to the ATV, and the resolutions menu on the ATV hides the needed 1024 resolutions.

Maybe this feature is in there - but I can't find it.
Within my "KIDS MOVIES" folder, I have a sub folder for one of their TV shows that I ripped to M4v.
The kids movie folder is "grid" and I set this sub folder to be "TV Shows" with List view.
It looks great initially - everything is organized right from what i can tell but I have 2 suggestions :
1) Thumbnail is identical to every episode (basically the DVD cover). My kids can't read yet so this is a problem for them to find their favorite episodes. An option to use a poster frame (x minutes or % into the video) would be amazing.
2) I use the .s01.e01 file naming business - but there really is no need to actually see that in the list text. Stripping out that out would be great (perhaps using the episode number for the list number?).

After a turbulent beta/development process aTV Flash has really come of age. I'm glad I hang in there despite some earlier frustrations as I can now enjoy a media streamer as it should be for mac. Great work guys!

I have an iPhone 4s and I am trying to mirror the phone image on the TV and I can't. I am only able to mirror the photos and the video but not a full mirror of the phone's image.
Please help.

Solution to Jailbreaking problems so you can install ATV Flash.
I tried jailbreaking my ATV2 last night for over an hour on my iMac and then on a WIN laptop. Neither worked. I couldn't get them to go into DFU mode. I only could if I had the power cable plugged in too. However keeping it plugged in through the whole jailbreak process didn't work either.
Here is the simple fix. Plug in the power cable at the beginning of the process. Once you get the ATV2 in DFU mode (watch the screen) after holding the remote buttons for about 7 seconds immediately remove the power cord from the ATV2. That did the trick. Then installing ATV Flash was a breeze.

I've been using the aTV Flash (black) for over a year and I absolutely love it. The latest version 1.2 is fantastic.
I've also enjoyed using the newest version of Media Player. However, I'm experiencing a very, very minor audio pause or break (probably milliseconds) when I'm watching VOB (DVD format) files from my NAS. This extremely short pause in audio happens throughout the movie - probably every 10-15 minutes. I know for a fact that it isn't an issue with my wireless connection since the I'm using 5GHz setting with the router and my NAS being within 3 feet from my ATV.
Have other people experienced this particular problem? The problem isn't anything major but it can at times be a little annoying.

im getting the same drop outs with VOB files, but i have a hard wired network connection and a 1 GB network switch with a Nas drive with a 1GB port

Hi,
I have a question which is probably been asked before but just to be sure:...
When I play a DVD file (like VIDEO_TS) can I add external subtitles with .SRT?
I know how to do it with MKV files and so but is it possible with DVD Files?

Unfortunately SRT files cannot be used with DVD (VIDEO_TS) files.

i still have the problem that when i watched a VIDEO_TS movie with media player and i press menu to go back, the movie starts over. when i press and hold the menu button it does the same.
the movie stops, it says "buffering" and then it starts from the beginning.

If you DVD files do not contain menus, you can press and hold the menu button to directly exit the movie.

Hello, the aTV flash is great, thanx for it.
But i am missing a very big feature.
As many people i've put my music on an NAS, all the music is in separate folders (artist->albums->music files). Now i'm missing the shuffle function !!! I know that it's possible to shuffle the music in one folder, but i want to shuffle all the music i have. It is not practical to put all my music in one folder there your'e never gonna find your music back ! I (and a lot of people) would love a shuffle function for folders with subfolder.....

Last week I posted a message stating that I just could not jailbreak the ATV2 even if I was following all the instructions. I also have an ATV1 which I jailbroked very easily a few years back with Firecore. I have a piece of advice to all who have problems: get yourself a quality USB cable. Yes, it worked only after trying with the third cable. But that one, I bought on Amazon, at 7$, for a USB cable! 7$. Well it worked first shot, as easily as it was supposed to be. Sorry James for not believing in you for a fraction of a second (well, maybe a little longer that that.) And thanks.

Ok, so the ability to zoom in on 4:3 videos?
I understand it is supposed to be in the playback menu - so when a video is playing, hold the middle button. This brings up the "Chapters, Audio Track, Subtitles" option along the top, but the option shown in the photo above for Zooming isn't there. Any suggestions?

HI since i have done the upgrade, i am having all sorts of problems with timing out when trying to install things, like HD Remote and other items in the maintenance area. i carnet install the browser or anything. It has been a week since the update and was wondering if anyone else had the same.
also, any idea how to get XBMC working, it can not see my external drive on my mac lion machine too.
Thanks anyway, it is running great apart from these very few issues.

it would be nice to have the ability to skip to the next item in a video playlist folder by keeping the left/right arrow pressed in the atv remote (now it only fast forward/fast rewind). Do you think it will be possible to include it in the next update?

Having problems recognizing .sub file. I see it on screen and tell the player to select it. It is selected but still not showing in the movie.

I've been using Movie-Library.cz it is in the XBMC Doplnky Repository and it works perfect. The only down fall is the menue is in Czech and so are the movie titles. It show the movie covers so I changed the view so it only shows the movie covers. almost all the movies are in English and some are in English with Czech subtitles. It tells you the size of the source so if you play the ones that are 4GB and higher it will buffer.

You guys could put an end to countless hours of frustration if, at the top of the page, you would simply put a large banner: "We strongly recommend NOT doing this on a PC, it likely won't work and hence, render your Apple TV useless until you find a mac."
3 cords, 3 different PCs, 2 different Operating Systems = A *LOT* of possible combinations and --NONE-- of them work. ALL of them had to be fixed by finding a Mac and unf*cking the mess the Apple/PC issues created.

I saw someone post that the usb and hdmi wouldn't fit together - this isn't correct. If there's a plan to omit the external hdd because of this, please don't assume that its not possible because of the plug issue. This is one of the only reasons I wanted to buy the ATV Flash so that I could store my content on external HDD sources without having to stream through non-itunes based services (i.e., Xbmc, etc.). I simply want the stock ATV functionality, with the ability to store content on an extenral NAS without having to stream via airport extreme, airplay, or an active computer stream.

Is there any chance that there will be an option to display full dvd jackets (front and back) in an upcoming release. It only displays the middle half at the moment. I don't really want to go through all my movie folders and change them to just the front cover. With over 300 movies that would drive me nuts. If you could include this as an option in media player then it would be the best product for apple tv on the market

Hey it's a glitch caused by the black out there is a fix for it.... Just follow the steps below:
1: Unplug your router or ethernet cable (wifi)
2: launch XBMC
3: Plug your router or ethernet back in
4: Go to videos; Add ons; Get more
5: Install youtube or any other addon and wait for it to complete
6: Exit back to the main screen and relaunch xbmc

The problem seems to be when xmbc starts its scrolling update on the bottom. I disconnected the Internet, then startup up xbmc. After a minute I plugged in my Internet and all works fine. Hassle. . Is there a way to disable it from Looking for updates??
