Apple TV (ATV2) 5.0 Update
Today we're happy to release new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with latest 5.0 (iOS 5.1) software running on the ATV2. A ton of work has gone into getting everything updated, and a huge thanks go out to Brandon Holland (@640774n6) and Dustin Howett (@DHowett) who both contributed immensely in adding support for 5.0.
Is this a tethered or untethered jailbreak? What's the difference?
Seas0nPass currently provides a tethered jailbreak for the new 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Apple TV software. Functionally, both jailbreak types are identical, the only difference being that a tethered jailbreak requires the Apple TV to be connected to a Mac/PC when first powering it on. Since the Apple TV doesn't have a battery, and is rarely ever powered off, this usually only needs to be done once.
What's new in the 5.0 Apple TV software? Should I update?
- New interface: - Fast, visual access to all content choices
- Movie purchases in iCloud: Support for buying movies on Apple TV and playing back purchased movies from iCloud
- Genius Recommendations: Recommendations for content on the iTunes Store based on previous rentals and purchases
- Screensaver photos: New National Geographic photos built-in for screensaver
- On-device sign-up: On-device sign up for content partners on Apple TV using your Apple ID
Updating to the new 5.0 software is not required, and all aTV Flash (black) features will continue to be supported on Apple TV versions 4.2 and later.
What about the ATV3, will this work?

I just did the 5.2.1 Tethered Jailbreak is Plex still not compatible ?
I added the Plex Xbmc works pretty well. Is there an ETA on an Un Tethered jailbreak thanks .

Hey there, if anyone could help with my questions I would appreciate it. I recently bought a Apple TV 2 jailbroken it worked perfectly fine. I brought it to my hotel and tried to use it but i think with the internet login the apple tv will not work is there a way around this? Also, for some reason my apple tv seems to be frozen and will not move pass the loading screen. I tried to restart it but it still does not work. Thanks again.

add the couch surfer browser to your install. from there log into browser. Select a page and hotel page will appear. Update it and log out of browser. You now will have all icons and xvmc will work.

After install nito tv on my seasonpass jailbroken atv2 the FC (settings) icon on my apple tv is gone. Anyone else have this happen. How do I get it back.

This does happen after jailbreak the settings box will feature as firecore logo,this confirms the jailbreak has been succesfull,as XBMC and Nito are loaded the logo changes again,you have XBMC&Nito folders displayed so settings will revert to the usual appletv logo,so the settings can be displayed and the sleep now function can be optimised.

3 atv2 upgrated, and just 1 minor prob during install of seasonpass, resolved with powercable.
We use media to stream from time capsule 2 atv.
Does anyone know what are the benefits of XBMC vs MEDIA?

Please help. I had ATV succesfully JB for months with tethered boot. Power went out so decided to give the non tethered JB a try. using latest season pass to JB I started getting odd error of 1602 and error 9 trying different methods of Jailbreaks. After 1602 error I plug in the TV and it works but after reinstalling and launching XBMC it would crash immediately and take me back to ios main menu. Is the xbmc crash related to the error when JB? Or is this coincidence?

These errors pertain to the communication between the appletv and the device where the download software is situated,check wireless connection between laptop and appletv via the router.

Just setup 1.6 and new jailbroken 4.4.4
I go into Media Player and it finds my mac (makki) then local host (makki.local) then it says login/pass fail but the thing is in sharing there is none in the login and password
What is wrong :(

I'm having trouble jailbreaking with the new software on windows 7, season pass goes through all the motions to prepare and install the software but when it goes to the "restoring in iTunes, please wait while script is running" screen it opens itunes but never initiallizes the restore, keeps saying "restoring in itunes please wait while running script'' but itunes is doing nothing, looked at some forums and did everything it said, as far as most current itunes, and season pass, as well as restarting my computer, checking my security settings and disconnected other usb devices with still no luck, it says right when i open season pass to close McAfee Total Protection but i dont have that, i have McAfee Internet Security which im sure is the same thing, and i disabled everything and even disabled them in the processes part of task mananger. Now i may be wrong but im starting to think thats theres something wrong with the script season pass is trying to run for the restore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue on my desktop at home where I use Win7 and 10.6 iTunes. I tried every method: with and without power cable and so on... Nothing work!. Now I tried at the office laptop, Win7 and 10.5 iTunes and it works!!!!! Maybe the version of iTunes is the key!!!!!!

Try to :
1) Authorize Computer in iTunes
2) Set up Home Sharing for Apple TV (in itunes and in apple tv)
3) Try Seas0nPass again

Hi Nick,
I'm having the same problem over here! When starting iTunes without Seasonspass, iTunes will notice the Apple TV 2 and asks for a restore (which I'm not doing :)
But if Seasonspass starts iTunes after patching, it will do nothing at all.

Hi there,
similar problem over here. I have applied seas0npass tethered on my ATV2 (5.0.1), installed XMBC, did the putty thing, etc. Everything worked well until I had to remove the power cord from my ATV for some reason. I expected that I only have to reboot via seas0npass to be able to use it again. SP asks me to put the ATV into DFU mode, when I hold down the buttons, lights are flashing rapidly, but nothing will happen besides the regular error flashing after a few seconds.
I tried to reset my ATV2 via itunes, but itunes always aborts referring to error 1611.
Can anyone please help me to get my ATV back working (jailbroken or regular)? I am pretty lost and did not find any solution on the web.

The appletv needs to be 'talking to the router' wirelessly,and the laptop will already be connected wirelessly and have downloaded the seasonpass,so the routine is to load seasonpass and when you are prompted put the appletv in 'dfu mode',and after it has uploaded the 'done'message is displayed.

It depends on the skin you have chosen.
You can't freely change the fonts in XBMC.

The latest Plex beta works on 5.0, but I'm not sure when it will be officially released. Most of the developers are more focussed on other parts of the Plex project right now. The beta is now about as stable as the Plex ATV client ever was, so perhaps FireCore can be convinced to include the beta for 5.0+

Restart season pass, click tethered boot, plug your atv in to the USB and push and hold menu and play buttons on the remote. Do not unplug the atv from the power or you'll have to do this every time.

No. The only thing you can do is wait for an untethered jailbreak to be released.

I have purchased and installed atv (black) for3 of my jailbroken atv2's(untethered and on the same atv black). I can access everything on all of them except for some reason on 2 of the units I cannot add a shared drive in the Media. All they do is constantly search but never find the drives. The other unit finds the share and works perfectly. The 2 that do not recognize are wireless in rooms away from the router. However, I have moved them and hardwired the connection with no luck. The 2 that won't recognize the share wirk flawlessly with everything else i.e. xbmc, plex, itunes,internet browser so I know they are not blocked by the router settings. Any else having this issue and if so have they found a solution?

Had a power outage after the last update and tethered boot and now my units are needing to be re-booted.... This really sucks!! Wish I had not updated till an untethered option was available

I have jailbroken atv2 as the FC is coming up in the right hand corner. I can't get logged into atv2 through ssh to put XBMC onto it. Is there an easier way to put XBMC on it

FireCore has nothing to do with XBMC.

With 3 kids, I am really needing parental controls.
When the metadata is downloaded for movies, you can clearly see the moving rating...
Would be great if you could setup a pin number for any movie rated PG-13 and above...then when a PG-13 or R movie is selected to watch, you have to enter that pin in...
